Opened to the public in 1999, the dovecot in Eardisland is thought to be late 17th or early 18th Century. It’s a square brick tower with a four-gabled roof built on two storeys. The lower room was designed for daytime occupation containing a fireplace and five windows, and between 1869 and 1874 housed a school for girls. The dovecot above consists of tiers of nest holes totalling around 850 in all. On the upper floor there is also a display of some rare Automobile Association memorabilia.
