Five Bridges
River Windrush, Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire GL54 2AE

Map
The River Windrush flows clear and shallow through Bourton-on-the-Water. River paddling is a favourite pastime here, but to cross the river without getting wet feet, visitors can use any of Bourton’s famous Five Bridges. These span not just the river, but also the centuries. The earliest is Mill Bridge, built 1654, and once called Broad or Big Bridge. Then comes Narrow Bridge, a footbridge dated 1756, followed by Paynes Bridge - 1776. 1911 sees the construction of New Bridge, and lastly comes Coronation Footbridge, built 1953.
