The Victorians had a passion for museums. Gloucester acquired its imposing purpose-built museum in 1900, but the collection it was built to house was started in 1860. Now the museum and art gallery displays the city’s heritage from dinosaur remains to modern paintings. Hands-on exhibits and computer interactives help to bring that heritage to life. The vast collections include natural history specimens, archaeological finds, coins, furniture and clocks, ceramics and silverware, paintings and drawings.
