Landsdown Estate is one of Britain's first provincial garden suburbs. In 1824, JP Papworth planned a suburb of high-quality housing, built around gardens and parks. After a faltering start, caused by the collapse of the property boom, the estate was finally completed by other architects, Robert and Charles Jearrad. Today, Landsdown Parade, Place and Crescent are little changed and now form a popular Cheltenham suburb. Landsdown Crescent is probably the highlight, with its long curving terrace of 45 nearly identical houses.
