The Abbey of St Peter was grand enough to have two cloisters. The smaller one gave onto the monastic infirmary. So we can picture it with a herb garden like the one it has today. The Little Cloister House is a medieval mixture. In the 15th century a timber-framed upper floor was added to a 13th-century stone base, probably to serve as a dining room for elderly and infirm monks. It was acquired by King’s School in 1959 and appropriately houses the History Department.
