Part medieval and part Victorian, Stow market cross was first put up in the 15th Century to encourage market traders to trade honestly. In 1878, Medland & Son added the gabled head at the same time as they built the imposing St Edward's Hall nearby. The four sides of the cross head show sculpted themes from Stow’s past. These are The Wool Trade, A Rood, St Edward and the Civil War.
