Olympic Champion Jane Torvill opened the National Ice Centre in the year 2000. The £43 million facility is the first twin Olympic sized skating facility in the country. The centre is open for a range of events throughout the year, including ice dance shows, synchronized skating, ice hockey games and other organised shows. However, on the whole, the centre is open for open access skating for the public.
