North Street was once called Horsefair Street and horse-tethering rings can still be seen in the walls here. They were used for the horse markets held here twice a year. Other interesting features include the little cottage hospital of 1888, which was open until 1929, the 15th Century gabled and mullioned White Lion Inn, the 18th Century Sun Inn and some well-preserved 1910 shops at numbers 18 to 20.
