Painswick Post Office is the oldest in England. Built in 1478, it is the only Painswick building with a part timber-framed front, although many buildings here are timber-framed behind their stone façades. This pretty building was used to decorate special stamps issued in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of the Federation of Sub-postmasters, one of only four post offices to be used. Inside, on the first floor, there is a sixteenth-century ceiling decorated with fleur-de-lys.
