The preaching cross at Ashleworth is situated in a prominent place on the village green. It is believed to date from the 14th Century with the head of the cross now partly obliterated. The story goes that it was once hidden in the chimney of a local cottage, which might account for its well worn look! The cross’s head has four carved sides; a rood (the Crucifixion) with Mary and John either side, a Madonna and child, and what is thought to be St Augustine and Canon Robert Fitzharding.
