The Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley, lies at the heart of Stourbridge’s historic glassmaking quarter. Glass cones once dominated the skyline north of Stourbridge but now the Red House Glass Cone is one of only four remaining in Britain. Built around 1790, the 100 foot high cone enclosed a furnace which was used to manufacture glass until 1936. Today, visitors can tour the glassworks including the mysterious underground passages and tunnels, and watch glass being made by hand. The Stuart Crystal Factory Shop is next to the visitor centre.
