By the third Century, the Roman town of Cirencester, or Corinium as it was then known, was second in importance only to London. It’s said that today it is impossible to put a spade into the ground in the town without uncovering a Roman relic. Many are now in the town’s museums. Others remain in situ for all to the see. For example, the third Century Roman Wall. Here, in the abbey grounds, a section of it has been excavated by English Heritage.
