Francis Kilvert, the Victorian diarist, was rector here from 1877 until his death in 1879 and is buried in the churchyard to the North of the Georgian tower. The nave, with herringbone masonry, doorways and windows date from the early Norman period but it is thought the chancel, with its pointed arched South door, may be Saxon. The 12th Century font is massive and mounted on columns. A mutilated stone effigy of a 14th Century knight is believed to be a Baskerville, Lords of the manor at that time.
