St Briavels Castle
St Briavels, Gloucestershire GL15 6RG - England, UK

Map
The fine moated castle at St Briavels was a hunting lodge for King John. The castle was founded in the 12th Century and was once the residence of the Constable of the Royal Forest of Dean and the main administrative centre. It was substantially restored at the end of the 13th Century when Edward I rebuilt the gatehouse to protect the castle from Welsh invaders. It is now used as a youth hostel. Open April to September.
