Completed in 1878, St Edwards’s Hall is one of the newer buildings in Stow and it dwarfs its older neighbours. Designed by Medland of Gloucester, it cost £4000, which came from unclaimed money in the town bank and from local residents, ranging from landed gentry to shop keepers. In 1894, the building was made even taller with the addition of the Belfry Spire, which was built to house the town fire bell. Today the hall houses the public library.
