Perhaps the best of England's so-called wool churches, St James' was largely built in the 1400s from the wealth of the booming Cotswold wool trade. Outstanding features include a beautiful Medieval Gothic tower, which stands 36 metres high, 17th-century marble tombs in the south chapel, 18th-century chest tombs in the churchyard and an exquisite 15th-century altar tapestry, which is thought to be the only intact Opus Anglicanum in England.
