This church is one of the few buildings remaining of the original Preston mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Much of the Norman material was used when St Lawrence’s was restored in the 19th Century; the original stone having been brought by barge from Caplar. The 13th Century nave windows are Early English, he chapel is 14th Century and the piscina dates from about 1300. The square pulpit is Jacobean as is the altar table. In the 14th Century tower hangs a medieval treble bell inscribed in Latin to the Madonna.
