St Mary the Virgin Church in English Bicknor is idyllically situated within the outer courtyard of a Norman motte and bailey castle. The church’s West tower is 13th Century and rebuilt – originally the tower was thought to be centrally placed. The church was restored by the Victorians but the Norman arcades remain, having a variety of decoration. More 12th Century work can be seen in the priest’s door, the piscina and the Norman tub font.
