The ancient church of St Mary the Virgin, Kington is situated on an imposing knoll in forested land on the outskirts of the village. It is a striking church, with the black and white timber characteristic of this area. It is home to the alabaster tomb of Sir Thomas Vaughan and his wife, of nearby Hergest Court, a nearby stately house built about 1266.Sir Thomas was killed fighting for the Yorkists at the battle of Edgecot near Banbury in 1469, and his church chose to honour his remains for posterity.
