St Mary’s Church in Painswick is unique for the dozens of clipped yew trees in its churchyard. The trees have given rise to two legends. One says that if you count them, you'll reach a different number each time. Another says, that there are in fact 99 and the one hundredth will never grow, because the devil won't let it. Other unusual features include cannonball holes in the tower and some beautiful seventeenth and eighteenth-century tabletop tombs.
