The large parish church at Kingsland was built by the Mortimers from 1290. Just off the North porch is the unique Volka chapel containing an open stone coffin; the origin of its name remains a mystery but the chapel is believed by some to have been built as a chantry, by others that it was a place for penitents, or that it’s the burial place of Walter Mortimer. In the chancel is a beautiful stained glass window depicting the archangels and a painted ceiling by Bodley from the Victorian restoration.
