The parish church of St Michael, with its huge tower, is an imposing structure. In the 10th Century, an Anglo Saxon church was founded here which was later reformed as an Augustinian priory. This operated until the Dissolution when St Michael’s became the parish church. Restoration to the chancel, East of the nave took place in 1733. The main body of the church is heavily buttressed and the internal pillars supporting the Gothic arches lean.
