There has been a place of worship on this site since celtic times, which is confirmed by the circular churchyard and yew of immense age and girth. The church itself is Norman and its first priest was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086. The church is built of local pink sandstone and grey tufa. The entrance is typically Norman with four small arches. The Chancel, Nave and Bell Tower were built in twelfth Century and rebuilt in the fourteenth. Don’t miss the medieval cross in the churchyard with its fascinating carvings of the Crucifixion and the Virgin Mary.
