St Peter’s is the civic church of Hereford and one of two medieval churches within the city. It was founded in 1085 by Walter de Lacy, a Norman lord who held estates in Herefordshire and Shropshire. He came to an unfortunate end that same year when he fell from the tower while inspecting the battlements. The present church is mainly 13th and 14th Century with some 15th Century choir stalls possibly originally from St Guthlac’s Priory. Some say the church has a ghost, believed to be that of a monk.
