This unusual sunken church is late Norman in origin. Some features have survived from this period, including the doorway to the tower. The top of the tower is 15th century though. Other notable features include a carved 14th century font and a beautiful wall tablet by Paty of Bristol. In the early 19th century, church rector here was F E Witts, Lord of the Manor and author of The Diary of a Cotswold Parson. His tomb is in the church.
