This is the oldest secular building in Cirencester. Also known as Weavers’ Hall, it was built in 1483 by Sir William Nottingham, Attorney-General to Edward IV, for four poor weavers. Typically medieval, it is built from rough Cotswold stone and it has very small oblong windows, one of which has been enlarged to allow in more light. This almshouse has been continuously occupied since it was built, and John Wesley preached here in 1787.
