Stafford Castle is one of the most impressive examples of a motte and bailey system in this region of the country. The prominent vantage point has been a strategic military installation since the Norman’s recognised it and the first timber fortress was built here around 1100AD. The visitor centre allows tourists to explore the rich history of the castle and the many incarnations that it has enjoyed.
