Tenbury Wells mineral waters were found in 1840, bringing about the spa building in 1862. The Spa or Pump Rooms as it is generally known, is described as Chinese Gothic and was designed by James Cranston of Birmingham. It was based on earlier greenhouses he had designed, with the glass being replaced by wrought iron sheets. The ‘Wells’ was added to the town’s name in the hope of attracting those who wished to ‘take the waters’.
