Tewkesbury Abbey has the largest Norman tower in the country. The 14-metre square, 45-metre-high stone tower was added late 14th century to the original Benedictine Abbey Church, which is now larger than 14 cathedrals and nearly all parish churches. Other outstanding features include fine roof bosses, medieval stained glass, chantry chapels and a 17th-century Milton organ, said to be the oldest in the country. The Abbey was consecrated in 1121. The Abbey visitors centre has a refectory serving meals, tea, coffee and homemade cakes. There is also a shop.
