Brothers Lindsay and Edward Heyes planted the traditionally designed maze in 1977 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. In 1991 they added the Museum of Mazes, which celebrated the 300th anniversary of the planting of the maze at Hampton Court. This is very much a hands-on experience and is the world’s first permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of mazes. The maze itself has 12 different routes and 13 dead ends. The paths are wide enough for wheelchairs and there is a viewing platform and puzzle shop.
