The Courthouse stands close to the old Black Country village of Sedgley’s historic Bull Ring. Its elegant Georgian façade conceals a much older stone building, which served first as the medieval Lord of Dudley’s manorial courthouse (nearby Dudley Castle actually stood just inside Sedgley parish, originally in Staffordshire). Sedgley Manor Court was independent from Lichfield diocese and wills of local people were proved here. The building became the Court House Inn in the nineteenth century but the manor court continued to be held here as late as 1925.
