The Old Meeting House (formerly Presbyterian, now Unitarian) dates back to 1717, when Dudley was still a small Worcestershire market town, surrounded by green fields. It replaced an earlier chapel, destroyed by rioters in 1715. When first built its clean classical lines would have been very imposing, though over the next two hundred years or so, accumulations of other buildings encroached upon it. Today its fine original stonework has started to emerge again, and the north façade’s simple decoration can still be viewed from the entrance passage along Wolverhampton Street.
