The Shambles, first opened in 1988, is a museum of Victorian life, set out as a complete town of shops, cottages, cobbled streets and alleyways. There’s everything here from a doctor’s surgery, bakery, and beer cellar to a solicitor’s office and a taxidermist. You can visit the photographer’s house and the clock repairer as well as a tiny green tin chapel and cottage garden. Everything has been lovingly recreated to show what life would have been like in Victorian times.
