The Abbey of Gloucester built the tithe barn at Hartpury during the 14th Century. It measures 16 feet x 36 feet, making it one of the largest such structures in the UK and was used to store the manor’s produce. The roof finials are worthy of note; on one end, facing England is a Welsh dragon while at the other end, looking out towards Wales is an English lion. The barn was altered in the 18th Century, adding five smaller doors, and restored during the 19th Century.
