The River Dore was thought to have been the border between England and Wales in Saxon times. The stone bridge, which spans the river Dore, now links the parishes of Vowchurch and Turnastone. The structure, with its three wide arches, was built around 1820 and rests on a more recent concrete raft. A little downstream of the bridge are the foundations of an older one, probably originally timber, and an unworked stone near the church is sighted over the old ford over the Dore.
