Wall was an important staging post on Watling Street, one of the trunk roads that the Romans built across Britain. The town would have provided overnight accommodation for travelling Roman officials and imperial visitors on their way to North Wales and beyond. The foundations of many buildings are on display at this site which is overseen by English Heritage.
