Wigmore Castle is barely visible from the small community of Wigmore in Herefordshire, being located on the edge of the village. Once the castle was the stronghold of the turbulent Mortimer family who abandoned the property in the 17th Century, allowing the castle to fall into ruins. Today, the castle is amongst one of the most magnificent ruins in the country, with many original fortifications surviving to full height, aloft its towering mound.
