The Aonach Eagach, the notched ridge, is aptly named. Experienced mountaineers take a day to follow its rocky crest high above the dramatic Glen Coe – it’s a serious undertaking. The ridge was used in the opening shots of the film Braveheart and the views from the top are stupendous. The ridge passes over two Munros, mountains higher than 914 metres. You can appreciate the ridge from the safety of the A82 – it looks particularly dramatic when wreathed in mist.
