The Applecross Peninsula is a place apart. It’s about as isolated as you could wish to be and yet boasts a thriving community and many excellent facilities in the village which is home to some 200 souls. Getting there is half the fun. One, of two options, is to take the Bealach na Ba road – the highest pass in Britain (pictured) which climbs from sea level to 626m in just 10km. There are extensive views from the top before the descent to Applecross and the delights of the Applecross Inn.
