Opened in 1995 by Magnus Magnusson, the Assynt Visitor Centre is a treasure trove for the visitor with an interest in the natural world. The centre (closed in the winter months) is split into two levels: the ground floor has information on local attractions and a reference library of material on natural history, geology, and local history; upstairs is the base for the Ranger Service in Assynt. From the upper level you can use high-powered telescopes to view the seabirds on Loch Inver. You can also watch the local heronry on CCTV.
