This ancient broch above a winding river in Strath More in the far north of Scotland is a tower of great design and atmosphere. Follow the road from Altnaharra to Loch Hope for 15km to reach it. The broch, a Pictish defensive structure, was built some 2,000 years ago. Its walls are 3m thick. Within them a narrow staircase would have given access to several rooms. A defining feature of this broch is the massive triangular lintel above the blocked door. Sadly there is no access to the broch but it’s still worth a visit.
