Overlooking the Firth of Lorn, Dunstaffnage Castle was an important stronghold of the McDougall clan, built around 1275. The formidable curtain wall that surrounds the property is recognised as being the oldest surviving of its type in the whole of Scotland. In the heart of the castle is the ‘new house’ which was built in 1725 and shows remarkable examples of 18th Century architecture.
