The town of Fort William lies in the beautiful countryside in the West Highlands of Scotland. It is surrounded by picturesque mountains, some of the most famous in Britain including Ben Nevis. Fort William has a rich Clan history and offers unspoilt sandy beaches, magnificent forests and stunning glens. It is the perfect place to explore and relax.

  Latest Fort William Review

Set on the banks of Loch Linnhe in the heart of the Scottish Highlands at the foot of Ben Nevis, you really couldn't ask for a better location than that of Fort William.

This former fishing town has become a thriving tourist centre in no small part due to its proximity to Britain's highest mountain. The town itself deserves praise for the ability to combine the trappings of a tourist resort but still keeping a sense of its Scottish identity.

Naturally there are plenty of tourist shops generally split into the trinkets and souvenir shops and the outdoor equipment shops for those brave enough to climb on and around Ben Nevis.

For those preferring a car however, the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre gives details of Glen Nevis and the road which runs right down the base of the famous mountain and is an excellent choice for the more gentle visitation.

There are lots of hotels in Fort William as you would expect for such a popular location and I've stayed in the Fort William Premier Inn and the Grand Hotel in the centre of town (ideal for those arriving by train).
