Set in the north-west Highland village of Gairloch this award winning museum details its colourful history from its earliest inhabitants through to the present day. Near the golf club a fort has been dated back to the Iron Age. Later Loch Gairloch was frequented by the Vikings as a place of refuge in stormy weathers and they would have had a major influence on the land although little remains except in placenames. Other museum exhibits include a croft-house room, schoolroom and shop, and the interior of the local light-house.
