This dammed Highland loch has the largest fresh water beach in the country. Lying in Glen Spean, between Kingussie and Fort William, its southern shore will be familiar to fans of the TV series Monarch of the Glen which features the Victorian pile of Ardverikie aka Glenbogle. Queen Victoria spent her first Highland holiday here in 1847 but is said to have retreated early because of the midges. The dramatic setting has several Munros as a backdrop.
