Loch Maree, the finest Scottish loch, extends for almost 20 kilometres from Kinlochewe in the south to Poolewe in the north. It’s a long, narrow loch; at its widest it’s barely four kilometres across. Surrounded by mountains, most notably the munro Slioch which stands above the northern shore. Parts of the southern shore lie within the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve and there are several very fine walks, starting with a half hour hike, available from an information point near the lochshore car park at the southern end of the loch.
