Lochalsh Woodland Garden is a lovingly tended gem of a garden with a magnificent backdrop of the Isle of Skye. Spread over 13 acres this secluded garden is part of the larger Balmacara Estate, run by the National Trust for Scotland. It includes a fine tree collection of Scots pine, oak, larch and beech, and exotics like the giant redwood. Its flowering plants are its main attraction, in particular its colourful array of rhododendrons, fuchsias, bamboos and ferns. A network of paths criss-cross the garden, with several leading to the water’s edge, where otters play.
