Shieldaig Island lies off the village of Shieldaig on Loch Torridon. The island, which is managed by the National Trust for Scotland, is completely covered in Scots Pine. It’s believed the trees were planted to provide poles to dry the nets of the local fishermen. Shieldaig has long been associated with fishing, mainly for herring, and catches are still landed here today. A short boat ride to the island will allow you to see the heronry there and get up close to basking seals.
