This building was originally constructed in around 1200 as the church of the town. It wasn’t until 1570, that St. Mary’s Chapel was converted into the school for the community, one of the earliest on the island. Closed in 1930, the school offers visitors the chance to see how children on this island learned for many hundreds of years. The original Victorian desks and inkwells are still in place.
