La chiesa abbaziale di Peterborough è stata fondata nel 655, ed è stata distrutta dai danesi e 870. Ricostruita nel 972, fu poi bruciata, per errore, nel 1116. L'attuale magnifica cattedrale è stato avviato nel 1118 e ha più di 120 anni per costruire. La cattedrale è molto degradata nelle mani di Oliver Cromwell, ma molte delle sue caratteristiche uniche restano da ammirare oggi.
